Dominee Tickner Edwardes (1865 - 1944) was van Hollandse afkomst, zijn naam Tickner is een verbastering van 'tekenaar', het beroep van zijn vader.
Hij woonde jaren in de "Red Cottage" in Burpham en stond alras bekend als "the bee-man of Burpham". Zijn boeken over de bijenteelt, zoals "The Lore of the Honey Bee", zijn nu klassiekers.
Zijn roman "Tansy", over een meisje dat de tradities verstoord door herderin te willen worden, werd verfilmd in 1921.
